Insight & Summary of TSMC’s Operating Expenses Breakdown Analysis

TSMC’s operating expenses have grown roughly fourfold over 2015–2025, but the composition of that growth reveals a company increasingly investing in administrative capacity relative to R&D, even as R&D remains the overwhelming majority of total spend.

  • OpEx Numbers: Sustained Growth, With a Sharp Step-Up After 2020 Total operating expenses grew from NT$88,467 million (2015) to NT$345,649 million (2025) — a 291% increase.
