Definitions

To help readers understand the content better, the following terms and glossaries have been provided.

Total Platform Assets: Robinhood defines Total Platform Assets as the sum of the fair value of all equities, options, cryptocurrency, futures (including options on futures and swaps, including event contracts),
cash held by users in their accounts, net of receivables from users (previously reported as Assets Under Custody), and any such assets managed by RIAs using TradePMR’s platform that are not custodied by Robinhood, as of a stated date or period end on a trade date basis.

Net Deposits and net market gains (losses) drive the change in Total Platform Assets in any given period. Starting in June 2025, the fair value of all cryptocurrency includes cryptocurrency on Bitstamp.

Total Platform Assets also include cryptocurrency lent through platform-enabled lending programs, where customers may recall such assets at any time through the platform.

Net Deposits: Robinhood defines Net Deposits as all cash deposits and asset transfers from customers, as well as dividends, interest, staking rewards, and cash or assets earned in connection with Company promotions (such as account transfer and retirement match incentives, free stock bonuses) received by customers, net of reversals, customer cash withdrawals, margin and lending interest, Robinhood Gold subscription fees, and assets transferred off of Robinhood’s platforms for a stated period.

Starting in June 2025, Net Deposits include results from Bitstamp. Due to data limitations, Robinhood has not included TradePMR client figures in Net Deposits key performance metric.

Insight & Summary of Robinhood’s Platform Assets and Net Deposits

Robinhood’s platform assets have grown dramatically since 2019, but the path there has been genuinely volatile rather than steady — a boom-bust-boom pattern that only recently gave way to sustained, accelerating growth.

  • Total Platform Assets: A Volatile Climb, Now Accelerating Sharply Total Platform Assets at end of FY grew from $14.1 billion (2019) to $322.1 billion (2025) — a 23-fold increase — but the path was anything but linear. Assets fell sharply in 2022 (to $62.2 billion, down from $98.0 billion in 2021), before more than tripling over the following three years to reach $322.1 billion by 2025. Average Platform Assets YoY Growth captures this volatility clearly: 173.4% (2020), 108.8% (2021), then a -0.5% contraction (2022), before reaccelerating to 79.3% (2024) and 74.3% (2025) — the strongest sustained two-year growth stretch in the dataset outside the initial 2020–2021 boom.

  • Platform Assets Breakdown: Equities Remain Dominant, Crypto and Cash Both Growing Equities have consistently represented the largest single component of platform assets throughout the dataset, growing from $11.7 billion (2019) to $212.0 billion (2025). Cryptocurrencies showed the most dramatic swings — surging from $3.5 billion (2020) to $22.1 billion (2021) during the crypto bull run, then collapsing to $8.4 billion (2022), before climbing back to $38.2 billion by 2025.

Cash held by Customers grew steadily and consistently in nearly every year, reaching $43.4 billion by 2025 — a comparatively stable growth pattern relative to the more volatile equities and crypto lines. RIA assets appear as a genuinely new category in 2025 ($42.5 billion), with no prior disclosure — this is worth flagging as either a new product line or a newly-disclosed existing one, since it represents 13.2% of total platform assets mix in its very first reported year, a substantial initial size for a category with no prior baseline.

  • Receivables from Customers: A Persistent, Growing Negative Balance Receivables from Customers (primarily margin balances) has been negative in every single year of the dataset, growing from -$0.7 billion (2019) to -$16.8 billion (2025) — meaning this line consistently reduces total platform assets rather than adding to it. This makes intuitive sense as margin lending grows alongside overall platform assets, but the magnitude has grown substantially, and its mix share has also grown more negative over time (from -5.0% in 2019 to -5.2% in 2025, though not monotonically), worth watching as a signal of growing margin/leverage exposure across Robinhood’s customer base as the platform scales.

  • Net Deposits: Strong Absolute Growth, But a Declining Ratio to Platform Assets Net Deposits grew substantially, from $4.3 billion (2019) to $68.1 billion (2025) — a roughly 16-fold increase. However, the Net Deposits to Total Platform Assets Ratio tells a more nuanced story: it peaked at 49.2% (2020) and has generally trended down since, falling to 16.7% (2023) before partially recovering to 21.1% (2025). This means that even as absolute net deposits have grown strongly, they represent a shrinking share of the total growth in platform assets — an increasing proportion of platform asset growth appears to be coming from market appreciation (asset value gains) rather than fresh customer deposits, particularly in the more recent years.

  • Structural Takeaway: Robinhood’s platform assets have evolved from a smaller, deposit-driven base into a much larger, more market-appreciation-driven pool of assets, with Equities remaining the anchor component while Crypto and the newly-visible RIA assets add meaningful diversification. The declining Net Deposits to Total Platform Assets Ratio — even alongside genuinely strong absolute deposit growth — suggests that a growing share of Robinhood’s platform-asset expansion is now being driven by market performance rather than customer cash inflows, which introduces more cyclicality risk than deposit-driven growth would.

Given the negative Receivables from Customers balance has grown substantially in both absolute and mix terms, and RIA assets emerged as a meaningful new category in 2025, the two things most worth monitoring going forward are whether margin balance growth continues to outpace platform asset growth generally, and whether RIA assets continues expanding as a genuinely new growth vector or proves to be a one-time reclassification.
