Insight & Summary of Microsoft’s Revenue Breakdown By Product and Service

Microsoft has moved from a diversified licence-and-devices portfolio to one led by cloud infrastructure and commercial subscriptions. In FY2023–FY2026, Server products and cloud services supplied 54% of incremental revenue. Together with Microsoft 365 Commercial it supplied 83%, and the pair now makes up 69.7% of revenue.

  • Server and Cloud: Acceleration at Scale Server growth stepped up from 22.8% and 23.3% to 31.5% in FY2026, and the line roughly doubled to $129.4B. Its mix rose from 30.7% to 39.0%, and it added $31.0B in FY2026, 62% of the group’s increase. The legacy decade shows this is a second leg of growth. Server grew 5.7x over FY2014–FY2024 (about 19% a year) and has been the largest line since overtaking Office in FY2019. Its growth peaked at 25–28% in FY2019–FY2022 and dipped to 18.7% in FY2023. It is now accelerating again on a base about three times larger than in FY2019.

  • Steady Compounders: Microsoft 365, Dynamics, LinkedIn Microsoft 365 Commercial has grown a steady 14–16% a year, adding $14.2B in FY2026. Its mix is easing (31.6% to 30.7%) only because Server is growing faster. Legacy Office shows the same reliability, at 9–13% a year since FY2019. Dynamics holds 15–18% growth, and LinkedIn has settled at 9–11% after the 20–30% growth of its early years. The notable new development is Microsoft 365 Consumer, which has accelerated from 3.6% to 11.4% to 23.9%.

  • Mature and Event-Driven Lines Windows and Devices has been flat at about $17.1B for three years, and its mix has fallen from 8.1% to 5.1%. In the legacy view, Windows plus Devices fell from 25.1% to 11.4% of revenue over the decade. Enterprise and partner services is recovering (−3.9% to 6.4%), and search advertising has re-accelerated (1.5% to 12.8% and 9.4%).

Gaming growth is event-driven. The FY2021 (+32.8%) and FY2024 (+39.0%) jumps account for over three-quarters of the decade’s gain, and growth was low or negative in between. XBOX peaked at $23.5B in FY2025 and fell 7.1% in FY2026, so the FY2024 step-up has not led to sustained growth.

  • Comparability The two compositions cannot be spliced. Windows plus Devices was $27.0B in FY2023 on the legacy basis against $17.1B on the new one, because commercial components moved into Microsoft 365 Commercial. In the legacy series, the FY2022 collapse in Other ($4.5B to $0.2B) coincides with Dynamics first appearing at $4.7B. That looks like a reclassification, not an operating event.

  • Structural Takeaway: Structurally, Microsoft is now a commercial-cloud company. On the legacy basis, Server plus Office rose from 47.6% to 62.3% of revenue over the decade, and the equivalent pair under the new composition is already 69.7%.

The trend is changing in one important way: headline growth is increasingly a Server story. Excluding Server, growth has slowed from 12.5% to 10.9% to 10.4%, so FY2026’s acceleration to 17.8% comes entirely from Server. If Server grows about 25% and the rest about 10.5%, Server’s share reaches roughly 42% in FY2027 and 45% in FY2028, with total growth near 16%. If Server normalises to 22%, total growth falls to about 15%, so the group’s momentum depends heavily on one line. The offsets are the acceleration in Microsoft 365 Consumer and the recovery in Enterprise and partner services. The drag is XBOX, which has turned from a growth driver into a decline.
